Officer Seats

Concept · Game mechanic

A ship’s lower deck seats unlock as the ship levels up. An officer can sit in a locked seat, but it does not take part in combat until the seat unlocks.

Every ship has three bridge seats — the captain and two bridge officers — and a number of lower deck seats. The bridge seats are always open. The lower deck seats unlock one at a time as the ship gains levels, at levels set per ship, so a low-level copy of a ship fields fewer officers than a high-level one.

The game lets you assign an officer to a lower deck seat that is still locked, and the officer stays listed in it. It does nothing in combat: its ability never activates while the seat is locked, whatever its conditions. The seat starts working once the ship reaches the level that unlocks it.

So a crew planned for a ship’s full seat count overstates what a lower-level copy fights with. When a seated officer never acts in a fight, check its seat before its conditions: the number of live lower deck seats is the ship’s unlock count at its level, and the officer’s position in the seat order says whether it sat inside them. An officer in a live seat that still never fires is failing its conditions.

In a raw combat log every seat is listed, locked or not, and active_officer_slots gives how many seats from the first were live. No ability event in the battle stream ever names an officer past that count. See Raw JSON Combat Logs. A CSV combat export lists only the bridge officers, so the lower deck crew, and which of its seats were live, can only be read from the raw JSON log.
