Warp requirement

Concept · Missions

A mission needs the warp range to reach the farthest system it sends you to, counting where it is picked up and where every objective takes place — one figure without superhighways, one with them.

Every system on the galaxy map has a warp distance: the warp range a ship needs to travel there. Superhighways are routes you unlock, and a system has a second warp distance for travel with them unlocked; some systems can only be reached with superhighways. Systems off the warp map, such as Wave Defense and arena systems, have no warp distance.

A mission’s warp requirement is the highest warp distance among the systems it names: the system it is picked up in and the system of every objective. A ship with that warp range can reach every step. The figure with superhighways is worked out the same way on its own, so it can come from a different system. A mission that sends you to a system reachable only with superhighways cannot be finished without them.

A mission that names no system has no warp requirement. Its objectives happen wherever you are (mine, defeat hostiles, upgrade a building) or at a system the game picks when the objective starts, a set number of jumps from somewhere. In the second case the system is not known in advance, so neither is the warp it needs.

The Missions index has a Warp filter: enter your warp range and it hides every mission that needs more. Tick “With superhighways” if you have unlocked them, and it compares against that figure instead. Missions that name no system stay listed.
